01. Hollow Horse |
A late 1999 show at Liverpool's Life Café resulted in a live acoustic recording released as Live at Life. The set featured a mix of McNabb classics as well as Icicle Works favourites. Originally only available in limited quantities, it was later released by Ian's new label, Sanctuary. Live at Life is a solo acoustic showcase for McNabb and his back catalogue, before an appreciative hometown Liverpool audience. The album opens with the Icicle works classic "Hollow Horse"and he plays all the favourites "Great Dreams Of Heaven", "Fire Inside My Soul" and "Merseybeast" on which his songwriting talent shines through. And although his lack of chart success is mystifying he keeps plugging away. Anyone who's aware of Ian McNabb's prodigious volume of work and entertaining style won't be surprised at the quality of this release. The acoustic tracks are crystal clear and cover older (Icicle Works) and newer material with charm and an occasionally tangible poignancy. Quite simply this is a steal at the price.
