All Lined Up is a celebration of the electronic new-wave/post-punk era that was
a soundtrack for many twenty and thirty-somethings, both CD's feature songs
you
know by
heart, some you may have forgotten and a couple you may have missed. Mind you,
this isn't a complete document of the post-punk boom of the late 70's & early
80's, but is a welcome survey of those bands that experimented and
added many new elements into their sound.
It's somewhat surprising that so much of this music still sounds contemporary
after twenty years, but...any compilation that purports to chronicle a particular
sound/place/time is going to be met with some comments to the effect of "Wait,
how come they didn't include (insert name of criminally omitted selection here)",
and this is no exception. Nevertheless, each of these tunes will be immediately
familiar to anyone who grew up in the early 80's. Universal is to be commended
for
keeping alive the great music of a bygone era. An excellent place to start
an 80s collection, or fill those missing pieces, it sure beats the heck out
of most of today's "music".
Highly recommended.
