For "Sands, " Henry Frayne (Area, Moon 7 Times) recorded rough tracks
on his own over the course of several weeks, turning on the tape machine when
the spirit moved him and going wherever an interesting chord would take him.
Additionally, utilizing drum loops and adding vocals helped bring the songs'
ethereal melodies to the forefront. Lanterna creates layers and layers of beautiful
melodies. Soft, acoustic guitar, drum machine (love love), tambourine, bass,
chimes, synthesizer, voice used as an instrument - all spread out and on top
of one another, to make a really mellow, yet creative and positive-sounding
song structure. Sometimes weepy, sometimes breathy, sometimes upbeat, but all
in the same family. Worth it alone for the stunning track "Atlantic".
