A project that recorded and gigged sporadically throughout the late 1990s,
White Rose Transmission consisted of guitarist and vocalist Adrian Borland
(the Outsiders, the Sound), vocalist Carlo van Putten (the Convent),
keyboardist and guitarist Florian Brattman, and violinist David Maria Gramse.
They released 2 albums that received
critical acclaim in Germany and were nominated for several German alternative music
awards. Unfortunately, with the sudden and unforeseen suicide of Adrian Borland,
the project came to a grinding halt. Carlo continued his carreer with his band
The Convent and also started a new band called Dead Guitars who will be releasing
their debut album by the end of this year. He was also planning to release
a solo album which would include a variety of songs which he had written over
the last 4 years together with Rob Keijzer (guitar). But with the renewed involvement
of original WRT collaborators Mark Burgess (The Chameleons, bass), Florian
Bratmann and David Maria Gramse (violin) he decided to release the album under
the monniker of White Rose Transmission and dedicate the album to Adrian, and to
the legacy Adrian left with his music. Bewitched & Bewildered is different from
it's 2 predecessors because it's merely an acoustic (guitar)
album with added touches of bass, violin and keyboards to complete the palette.
It's is a beautiful and delicately crafted release celebrating human emotions
and human values and the delicate balance and quiet power of both. The varied
qualities of the guitars set against keyboards and percussion interweave an
ever-expanding air of warmth and reverence as the soft spring winds begin to
thaw the harsh winter cold. The bonus disc includes 3 excellent
acoustic cover versions of All About Eve, Edie Brickell and Heather Nova, the
songs are perfomed by Carlo van Putten on vocals with Marty Willson-Piper
and Martin Bosker on guitar.
