2003 digitally remastered reissue of Felt's seventh studio album which
was originally released in 1987 on Creation and enjoyed great indie
chart
success reaching number 6 and remaining in the indie charts for 2 months! Felt
returned to the idea of 6 track 30 minute albums for Poem Of The River that
is generally regarded as their best album. More relaxed than their previous
work,
some of
the tracks even verge on easy-listening and Lawrence rarely wrote better songs
than "She Lives by the Castle" and "Declaration". Saint
Etienne's Sarah Cracknell was the subject of "She Lives By The Castle, " one
of the tracks on Poem of The River. A song that is frighteningly
honest, with all the yearning, tributaries and, contradictorily, downright
spite that
a break-up can provide. Maurice
Deebank, Felt's main guitarist, had left, and session
players were brought in to compensate, to good effect. Martin Duffy's swirling
organ, great songs, Lawrence comes closer to singing in tune than he ever has
and some fine guitar work. The album
is now available in it's original format
for the first time on CD.
