Pink Turns Blue is one of the early German goth rock bands founded in 1985,
they influenced many German bands. After indie hits like "Michelle", "Walking
On Both Sides" and "Your
Master Is Calling" they split
up in 1995. In 2003 they reformed to appear on a few festivals. Because of
the success of this re-union, they released a best of album called "Re-Union" and
now, eleven years after their last regular album they are back with Phoenix.
The 11 songs on the album have the same sound as PTB at their best in
the 80s, when they played pure wave. The band never tries to transform
their sound to modern music; they play authentic 80s influenced post-punk/wave
in their own and convincing style. The melancholic songs are build around
beautiful melodies, with dominating guitars and the desperation
of
Mic Jogwers vocals.
Stand out tracks like "Good Times" and "Dynamite" are really
great dark-wavepop-songs. "Phoenix" is a record that should
be liked by fans of the dark wave genre, but is also a big recommendation for
people who like indie pop bands like Interpol. This is
a great album and
probably THE comeback of the year.
