The debut album of the Dutch/Frisian band Sippe Sibbele was an unexpected
sensation in 1999. Strongly related to the music of the Serenes, this album
is full of fabulous sonics, punchy rhythms, soaring guitars, and bright and
brash pop melodies with a strong, yet modern 80's feel. By using their influences
as a mere launching pad and consistently developing their many strengths, Sippe
Sibbele was able to outlast all of their early peers. Dense, magical, otherworldly,
and haunting, "Lanes" is easily one of the best overlooked records
of the '90s. It's a record that makes you want to crawl inside its sleeve and
remain. It’s as welcoming as it is insular and sheltered.
