For more than 9 years now KONG has been one of the most exciting live-bands
from the Netherlands. With a quadraphonic stage set-up (playing from the four
corners of the hall) and a repertoire of dark, instrumental, metal-rock the
quartet, in every respect, has been a highhanded outcast in the Amsterdam pop-scene.
Already for 5 albums the quartet has maintained this instrumental concept. But
on the recently released cd Freakcontrol, the KONG-sound has undergone a major
face-lift. In fact KONG has been inspired by dance-music for years, but this
time the influence becomes more obvious than ever. Without losing anything from
the typical KONG-elements like a sense for dynamics and edgy contrasts, Freakcontrol
is a record that connects to the temporary big-beat sound. It's not a coincidence
that the last track 'Yellow Mystic' is a remix by Junkie XL's Tom Holkenborg,
who produced a couple of former KONG-albums and for years shared the rehearsalroom
with KONG. If you like OZRIC TENTACLES and PORCUPINE TREE than you will LOVE
Kong's Freakcontrol !
