Digitally remastered reissue of the original 1991 album expanded with two
new, never heard tracks and revised artwork. For Steve Kilbey,
ordinariness in music, often caused by mundanity of motive (eg. money) is an
ennervating
fact of life that drains
him dry. More and more he felt compelled to provide an antithesis for the aridity
of what he heard around him, and to that end, he put together
his own 24 track studio in 1991. The music of this album was
recorded spontaneously over the course of six months while his studio was
in various stages of completion. This album
has
the
same
undertones as The Church's Sometime Anywhere, an almost spooky yet beautiful
style of mellow alternative is at work here. Tracks like Somna and
Fall In Love are just plain different, there are no other recording artist
pushing this envelope. The essential and uplifting "Midnight
in America", "The Egyptian", "English Kiss" (both
classic Kilbey) and the fabulous "Linda Wong" . Narcosis+ is Steve
Kilbey's most dreamy solo album, a tangibly melancholy, intricate, incredible
production. Listen to it in a soft and comfortable
place and give in.
