Obsessive Company is an indie-pop band that has been silently playing and recording music in the late eighties. Its founder and leader, Marc St Aubin (born in Toronto), is an avid indie-pop fan who cites influences from bands such as (early) Talking Heads, Gene Loves Jezebel, Zerra I and at times even The Triffids. Obsesive Company formed in 1985 when the three musicians from Canada, UK and France, Marc St Aubin guitar/vocals, Jean Michel Cotard bass and Beny Demaza on drums played the London pubcircuit. In 1986 they had their first tour through France joined by Paul Kevill on guitar and drummer Beny Demaza then replaced by Dave McIntosh. 1987 was their peak year with a summer tour in Brittany, several gigs at the Gibus Club in Paris and in Belgium . The band recorded 8 tracks at Ezee Hire recording studio in Islington and released one single: including the songs Younger and Friends, they played in the famous London clubs 'The Mean Fiddler' and the 'Dingwalls, Rock garden'. 1988 saw the band in Rennes at "Ubu Club" and "Rock and Solex Festival', followed by a change of line up, which kept Marc and Jean Michel together with other musicians for a last tour in Eastern France and Switzerland. At the end of 1998 the band broke up and Marc St Aubin went on to do a solo carrier. In 2000 Obessive Company decided to reform for a short tour in Brittany and to release a CD including the tracks recorded in 87, and some acoustic demos of Marc. The album was finally issued in 2001 primarily because they were finally able to do all the engineering and mixing themselves. The outing as a whole is, lets say laidback. It doesn't have the dark noir that many of those great 80's band's had, rather it has a sort of melancholy with odd moments of bright playful surprises. Nothing really earth shattering is done here, but it's quite a nice album which certainly has it's moments.
