Lost Songs gathers 15 formative recordings that were laid down by The Opposition in 1978 and have never been released before in any form. Technically speaking, it covers a period during which The Opposition underwent some lineup changes and officially changed into a new band, with guitarist/singer Mark Long and drummer Ralph Hall carrying over from the initial band. Down the road, The Opposition would become much better at incorporating their influences, blending and almost burying them. Despite the fact that the band were just getting used to playing with each other, most everything sounds assured, tight, and nearly professional. What these songs suffer from in derivation is equaled in skill, quality, and enthousiasm. In the main it's pop-punk: new wave songs taken at slightly breakneck speed, sometimes straying into rock-meets-reggae territory! It is a raw powerful album, and a fascinating historical insight into the evolution of one of the most exciting and influential guitar bands of the 80's.
