There's alot of
history to this band and the early Liverpool indie scene. Celebrating 25 years
since the original release it's now available in this digitally remastered
2-CD set. (It has also been released in a strictly limited edition
3-CD set!) Packaged with a 24 page booklet featuring unseen photos and notes
from singer/guitarist Ian McNabb and manager Tony Barwood and contains the original
album remastered from the studio tapes by Tim Young at Metropolis plus a CD
of B-sides and mixes (many on digital release for the first time). Best known
for the hits Birds Fly (Whisper To A Scream) and Love Is A Wonderful Colour,
this album catapulted them into the limelight and introduced the world to the
songwriting craft of Ian McNabb. A recommended album for anyone who likes New
Wave, Indie, Brit Pop, Brit Rock, obscure British bands who have more than
one song worth listening to, and anyone else who likes simple, melodic rock
and roll. This album, probably their finest, ranges
from the sublime chimes of Mcnabb's Rickenbacker 12-string to the urgent primal
pounding of Chris Sharrock's drumming. Crafted by the legendary producer Hugh
Jones - responsible for some of the finest recordings of the 80's - this collection
will move you emotionally and physically. Concluding with the slow burn fire
of "Nirvana, " The Icicle Works is early-'80s wave-rock at its
considerable best.
