In addition to The Gun Club's "Divinity", Jeffrey Lee Pierce's
2nd solo album, "Ramblinī Jeffrey Lee ", has finally been digitally remastered
and re-released. This
whole album originally released in 1992 was obviously a labor of love by someone
who understood and appreciated blues for everything that makes the blues so
incredible. He covers many different of styles of blues from electric Chicago
blues to acoustic delta blues and others. Most of the songs are covers, but
there are a few originals. The originals are almost as good as anything he
has ever covered (a very cool version of Tommy Johnson's "Cool Drink of Water
Blues" was done
on the Gun Club "Fire of Love" album).
This (mostly acoustic) material is different from anything else he ever did
before with the Gun Club or his other solo album, "Wildweed, " and the real
shame is that he wasn't able to go on to do more stuff like this. While Gun
Club was an incredible, ground-breaking band, fans of Jeffrey
Lee Pierce will see this album as a true testament to how amazing a musician
he was, and hopefully the rest of the world will realize it one day..
