2009 digitally remastered and expanded digipak edition of the classic Banshees album from 1982 featuring four bonus tracks including the epic 12" versions of 'Fireworks' and 'Slowdive' plus the previously unreleased demo versions of 'Painted Bird' and 'Cascade'. A Kiss in the Dreamhouse is the 5th studio album released by Siouxsie & the Banshees and was issued by Polydor Records in the UK in 1982. The well-titled album returns the Banshees to (twisted) romance as they balance experimentation with new styles, backings and sonic textures with a growing, if subversive, pop vocabulary. This remastered edition offers up two demos and two extended remixes. The album belongs to what critics and fans refer to as the Banshees? ?experimental? phase, as it contains chimes, strings, synthesizers, and many vocal overdubs. Somehow the Banshees have managed to progress throughout their career of ups and downs. This fine set is without doubt their highpoint, for now at least. The nine tracks fit together perfectly but cover so much ground you feel almost drained after listening. Augmented by strings, an array of percussive bits and pieces and their own sympathetic production 'A Kiss' is an essential listen. There's the disturbing 'Obsession', the loose jazz approach to 'Cocoon', and the frantic new single 'Slowdive'. Siouxsie's voice is as strong as ever, Budgie and Severin as solid, but the real hero must be John McGeogh. Stylish guitar from acoustic to electric and some sweet and precise keyboards just when they're needed. Both a critical and commercial success, it peaked on the UK albums chart at number eleven. The Banshees claimed it to be their personal best, until the release of Peepshow in 1988. The album is also notable for its Gustav Klimt-inspired sleeve artwork.
