Formed in London, England, in 1984, the Immaculate Fools were an excellent UK pop band that initially consisted of two sets of brothers, Kevin Weatherall (vocals, guitar), Paul Weatherall (bass), Andy Ross and Peter Ross. They made their debut with "Nothing Means Nothing" in September 1984, before hitting with "Immaculate Fools" in January 1985. Afterwards they spent much time touring the continent where they enjoyed more popularity, especially in Spain. Further singles included "Hearts Of Fortune" and "Save It" in 1985. Their second album, Dumb Poet, was well received by critics, though it did not recapture their earlier chart success. It spawned the singles "Tragic Comedy" and "Never Give Less Than Anything". The Toy Shop, their 4th full abum, is another fine example of the Immaculate Fools' appealing sound - a sound that combines Irish/Celtic touches with influences that range from the Psychedelic Furs and David Bowie to Bob Dylan. It's an interesting mix, certainly, and one that works impressively well on tuneful, melodic tracks like "Heaven Down Here," "Good Times," and "Cotillas." The surprising thing is that the band was more popular in Spain than anywhere else - how often does a British alternative pop/rock band with a strong appreciation of Irish/Celtic music become especially popular in Spain and end up moving to that country? It certainly isn't an everyday occurrence.
