Tagyeah shows its interactive side by asking the listeners to encript the songtitles of their debut album. As the songs have only been given initials by the band (like NBT, CTM or WYSIC) the direct message or meaning of the album remains obscure, unless you take the effort of listening to it. And such a listen is a pleasant one, because Tagyeah produces a convincing set of tunes. Tagyeah refers to bands and artist like DAF, LCD Soundsystem, U2, Bauhaus, Sonic Youth, Morrissey and Joy Division. But they forgot to mention The Chameleons and The Cure because more than once the guitars are handled in the same manner as Dave Fielding/Reg Smithies and Robert Smith/Porl Thompson. This melancholic, jangly style gives the album a shadowy timbre, despite the fact that some more sturdy, gritty and piercing riffs also appear (on "NBT", "INWYT" "ML" and "AMS" in particular). The overall feel of the album is one of elegant yet lively gloom, without getting exaggeratedly dire. For a duo Tagyeah manages to create a full sound, despite the absence of a bass guitar. With a cleverly programmed synth and drumcomputer the guitar and the passionate, sometimes sentimental vocals get a tuneful and effective backing. Mid-tempo tracks dominate, this is mainly music to listen to rather than to dance on. As a debut this album sounds solid, it doesn't contain any filler and despite the comparisons you could make to other current neo wave/post-punk bands Tagyeah is distinct enough to enjoy a fruitful career.
