History Will Never Hold Me is the Hourly Radio's debut full-length album and it is full of catchy pop/rock. The band kind of has that Interpol feel with fuzzed over production but is much brighter and positive. The quartet promises a bit of shoegazing guitar to go with their dynamic electro pop sound, and delivers that promise while also tying in melodic vocals that soar to huge heights and a bit of New Wave-esque pop hooks. Things open strongly with the instrumental intro â??Travelsigns,â? then turn instantly into the sing-along Interpol-ish synth number â??He Said/She Said.â? This great little tune is then followed by the first single â??Crime Does Pay.â? This track is a perfect selection to represent the disk, and should go a long way toward garnering the group quite a few fans. Other highlights include the slow-to-mid-tempo pop number â??Not A Victim,â? and the great album closers â??Fear Of Standing Upright,â? and â??First Love Is Forever.â? The way that this band fuses shoegazer style with pop is the thing that keeps them above a lot of newcomers. They manage to sound fresh even though it is obvious that their influences are all based in the 80s and 90s. But what really is stirring are the layers and textures that the band weaves on top of their incredible songwriting.
